Jacob is a student at Grand Valley State University and dreams of being a dentist. Next week Jacob along with a team of engineering students and professors will be travelling to Malawi. Their mission is to install Solar Suction Surgery Systems, otherwise known as the S4 at various medical centers and hospitals in Malawi. In preparation for his trip, Jacob had to renew his passport and get vaccinated.
The S4 stores clean and renewable solar energy and serves as a backup power source that may be used in times of emergency and power outages. The S4 was developed by GVSU students. For more information on the S4, click here.
In Malawi, the team will also be instructing hospital administrators on how to build the S4. The S4s will help provide vital electricity during critical surgeries and medical procedures.
